Our Approach to Healing

Our particular style of energetic healing integrates concepts and practices from western developmental psychology, Eastern medical systems, Shamanic cultures, and the many and various professional and personal insights we have acquired along our journeys.

Many approaches to healing emphasize mystical and metaphysical elements. We integrate such elements into our practice, but our approach also pays careful attention to practical, body-centered issues. We will begin with the concept that we are “energy beings”, that our bodies essentially are energy slowed down, and that many physical and emotional symptoms of “dis-ease” result from blockages or impediments to the constant healthy flow of energy through us.

When you come in, we will want to examine with you how and where you hold energy as tension in your body, where you feel pain or discomfort, your past and current state of health, and the role of your feelings and beliefs about yourself, your life, and the world around you in relation to your dis-ease. We will consider your body type and formative childhood experiences as we assess with you your habitual approach to holding energy in your body to protect or defend yourself from perceived threats to your safety or well-being. While we all develop such self-protective strategies early in life, often they have side-effects later that no longer serve us as we find that we have effectively blocked healthy energy flow in various areas of our bodies. Such blockages can lead to physical dis-ease and emotional discomfort.

Once we have assessed where and how you are holding energy, we will use body-centered techniques to help free the movement of energy through you. Many clients experience a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of profound well-being during this process. Those suffering pain will often find their pain reduced as well.

After the treatment, we will take some time to share any insights (yours and ours) that may have arisen during the treatment and to devise a follow-up plan which may include exercises, additional treatment or, if appropriate, referral to practitioners of other modalities, depending on your unique needs. While many clients come to us for the immediate relief they feel during a single treatment session, lasting benefits are more likely to accrue from the changes that you make in your life as a result of the subtle changes in energy and the insights you gain from a series of treatment sessions. Our goal is to support you in your own healing and, as in any form of education, learning, or healing, the true benefit is in how you integrate your experience.
